What Is Your Treasure?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
— Matthew 6:18-20

Do we put too much time, effort and resources into temporary things? Listen, heaven is the real deal, the eternal dwelling place. Earth is the temporary dwelling place. Heaven is the original, and Earth is the copy. Take the very best things you have ever seen or felt on this earth and multiply them a thousand times and they will simply be a glimpse of glory, only a taste of what is to come.

One day we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, also known as the Bema Seat, where believers will receive rewards for their faithfulness to God. Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia, "And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not (we do not lose heart)” (Galatians 6:9).

And we are also reminded in 1 Corinthians 3:8, "Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor."

So, according to God’s Word, there is a reward. And this should cause us to want to do everything we can for God's glory. I often remind myself; I can't take it with me, but I can send it on ahead. Every investment we make of our lives for God's glory will result in an eternal reward: the giving of our time, the use of our gifts, the investment of our resources. By being faithful to the Lord, we are laying up treasure in Heaven for ourselves. God Bless!
