The Christian Solider and Two Important Spiritual Weapons Rarely Used

To him that knows to do good and does it not, to him it is sin.
— James 4:17

If you are a Christian, you are a soldier in the army of the Lord Jesus Christ.  As soldiers we need to realize that we are in a war and that God has given us weapons of warfare to use.  He has given us two very important weapons to use in our world today and no, they are not complaining and whining.  I do a lot of both at times, but it doesn’t do any good and it has never won a battle for me. Something else that doesn’t do any good is boycotting and protesting.  Now don’t get me wrong, I do both, but it doesn’t bring people into the Kingdom of God.  I think Christians should protest and boycott those who blatantly mock God.  I would call that making a stand but not a weapon of spiritual warfare.

The two most important secret weapons that God has given to the church are praying and preaching.  We pray for our nation. We pray for people we will share the gospel with.  And then we share the gospel with them.

Sadly, these are spiritual weapons that are rarely used by the church today.  Most of the time it appears we do everything except pray and preach.  But these are things that we need to do a lot more of.  In fact, I will take it a step farther, not praying for our country and preaching the gospel could be a sin.

Let me explain.  There are two kinds of sin, sins of commission, which are breaking God's law and the sins of omission, which are not doing what God wants us to do.  We are told in our text, "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin”.  I will use an example that has been used many times to explain what I’m talking about.  It would be like walking by a burning building and knowing there are people inside but doing nothing to help them.  If I don't go in and try to save them myself, at the very least I could call the fire department.  But if I were just to walk by as though nothing were happening and left them inside to die, that would be criminal.

So, when we see a world today that doesn't know God and headed to a devil’s hell who need to be prayed for and preached to, and we do nothing, that also could be criminal.  We are living in a hostile world right now.  If we do not warn the wicked, their blood will be on our hands.  My mini sermons may come across to some as mean spirited but I can assure you that is not the case.  I do believe in telling it like it is!  The world in Noah’s day was warned of the coming judgement and we must warn the world of our day of the coming judgement.  Let's pray and preach.  God Bless!
