The Great White Throne of Judgement
At the Judgement Seat of Christ only Christians will be judged there. They will ether receive reward or lose reward. It’s not a judgement of heaven or hell that has already been settled. The Judgement Seat of Christ is judging our works after salvation. But the GREAT WHITE THRONE, you don’t want to be found at that judgment... Only the lost will be there. Their works will be judged and yes, there are degrees of hell. The more light, knowledge, opportunity, etc. a person had here will go against him there.
The throne mentioned here is GREAT and that is setting it in strong contrast to the other thrones mentioned in Revelations. It is called the GREAT WHITE THRONE. The WHITE speaks of the purity of the judgement that comes from this throne. The one who sat on this throne is none other than The Lord Jesus Christ and please notice that the earth and the heavens (Sky & Space) flee, cease to be. In Revelation 21 we see a new heaven and a new earth. There is no place for the old sin riddled world of sin and death.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Notice in verse 12 John see’s both the small and great, the nobody’s and the somebody’s stand before God. You’re talking about a sobering wake up. Just think of the atheist, leaders of nations of the past and present those who made laws against God’s laws and who purposely attacked God’s Word and people who were just poor peasants and everybody in-between. Regardless of your position on earth, if you didn’t except Christ as Savior, you will be a part of the SMALL AND GREAT. Notice they are judged “ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.” Can you imagine Supreme Court Justices, Presidents, and others in HIGH PLACES who said, I don’t care what the Bible says, we’re going to go against its teachings and allow the murder of babies, same sex marriage, etc. Those works will be judged. Everything people have done, good and bad will have been recorded-in the books. Even poor people who supported evil laws that go against God’s Word will have those works judged. ALL WORKS of unrighteousness will be judged from the books.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works
No escape! Grind your body in to ashes and throw them in the sea but God will put the body back together. Notice DEATH AND HELL delivered up the dead in them. DEATH is the grave Hell is where lost people go now when they die. This verse is saying that the body from the sea and grave and the soul from hell will be resurrected to stand before God and be judged and later cast into the LAKE OF FIRE. Once again, verse 13 tells us that they will all be judged according to their works and what degree of hell they will experience for eternity.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Death and Hell will be cast into the lake of fire. Death and Hell are the body and soul. This is the second death which is not annihilation but an eternity being separated from God and all that is good.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Verse 12 say’s that the book of life was opened along with the book of works. Here in verse 15, it tells us that there are no mistakes at this judgement. Can you imagine someone there asking Jesus to check one more time to make sure his name is not written in the book of life. Can you hear them saying, Lord Lord, we did many wonderful works, check again, we must be in that book? Then the answer, sorry but I never knew you (Matthew 722-24).
Today is the day of salvation. Do not gamble on life because you don't know if you have another minute and an opportunity to be saved. If you close your eyes in death and open them in hell, you will know that you waited to late Luke 16:19-36). Confess Christ today as your Savior. God Bless
