The Scattering of the Power of the Holy People

By: Woody Godbey

I will take three or four days for this mini sermon. I will attempt to share 4 signs of the last days that we see happening right before our 21 century eyes.

The first one is "The scattering of the power of the holy people" Daniel 12: 7-9: 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?

9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

And yes, I realize some associate this with Israel and some associate the verses with the saints who are saved in the Tribulation. It could fit both and the church in the last days. Notice the words in verse 7, “Scatter the power of the holy people”. The word scatter here can also be translated shattered. So, what is the scattering or shattering of the power of the holy people? The power of God’s people is shown in several ways.

One example of this is our testimony. Our testimony displays God's transforming power in our individual life. It is the testimony of Christians that can cause lost people to believe God is true. When I got saved, some of my friends came to Christ also because they saw the change in my life and realized that God is real. Our testimony is one evidence of the power of God’s people.

A second evidence of Christian power is in our actions. People who knew me in my younger days can testify to the sinful life I lived. I had lived a life in sinful and selfish indulgence. When the power of God delivered me from the party scene of alcohol and drugs, the change in my actions and habits caused some old friends to believe God was real. What we do matters to the world. If we say we are believers, then the world will look carefully to see if we are really changed. If there is no change in our action, then the world will reject our message and label us religious hypocrites. I’m no angle but I know for sure that I’m not the man I use to be! Our actions are another evidence of the power of God’s people

Another evidence of the shattering of the holy people's power is in the power to affect society. In the great awakening of the 1800s, the power of the gospel changed entire cities, towns and regions. Bars closed for lack of patrons and churches filled up with repentant sinners. When the holy people can no longer affect society, it is a sign of the end. When the world chases after sin and we are deemed irrelevant, we should prepare for His coming. From the removal of Bible and prayer from schools, to the legalization of sodomy, the people of God seem powerless to stop it. Sin must be fully manifest before the end can come.

Can you see the scattering or shattering of the power of God’s holy people? In the 50’s, America was still a strong Christian nation. You may not like what I’m about to say but it is true, we are weak because of the scattering/shattering of the power of God’s people! God Bless!
