Four Blood Moons

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come. 32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
— Joel 2:28-32--28

In August and September of 2015 the internet was full of postings on the "Four Blood Moons" predicting the end or some catastrophic event with Israel. I had several people ask me about it and what I thought. My exact words were, "Forget the moon and watch the Middle East and Israel. That is God's calendar of events.”

The night of September 27/28 was the fourth "blood moon." I wanted to know what the non-Christian skywatchers thought about it so my google brought this up. "To skywatchers, it simply refers to the copper color the moon takes on during an eclipse." That's about it for them. But to some Christians and preachers, the fourth and final eclipse in a tetrad which is four consecutive total lunar eclipses, each separated by six lunar months fulfills biblical prophecy of the apocalypse. I looked it up and found that the first three in the series took place April 15, 2014; October 8, 2014; and April 4, 2015.

John Hagee has said more about this than any other minister I know and he wrote a book with that title, "Four Blood Moons." He makes it pretty plain that the tetrad was a sign being sent from God. He says, "The coming four blood moons points to a world-shaking event that will happen between April 2014 and October 2015,"

A couple of Scriptures he uses, our text Joel 2:30-31, which reads, "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come." and Revelation 6:12, part of the passage about the Seven Seals -- which reads, "I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood." Nether of two passages have anything to do with our life but Tribulation life.

I like John Hagee, he's intelligent and most of the time right on in what he preaches. But in my humble opinion his theory of the blood moons coinciding with Jewish holidays don't hold water. If a first year seminary student studies Jewish history, he knows that Jewish holidays or feast are based on the lunar calendar. And not only that, something catastrophic happens almost every day in Israel. It's kind of like the Nostradamus theories. I've studied all the events with Israel after the different moon cycles and all the dates given don't coincide. I can prophesy that some great event with Israel is going to happen in the next 2 years and I would be right. In fact, you can almost do that on a monthly basis.

I didn't know until I googled it but there have been 62 of these tetrads since the first century. They follow natural cycles and are easily calculated. I did some research and found out that the first three of the four most recent eclipses were not visible in Israel itself. So I'm wondering, what good is a blood moon if Israel can't see it? I'm sure some would say that it is a sign for Christians. The Lord gave us many signs of the end time and most are going to happen in the Tribulation period. Christians should be ready and looking for the return of Jesus when He comes in the clouds for His church 24/7! There are no signs that have to happen before the rapture, it's imminent.

I had a couple of young preachers get really excited about this event especially when they found out it had occurred during Jewish holidays in the past and would happen again this year. My answer to their enthusiasm was forget the Moon and watch what’s happening in Israel and the Middle East. That is my advice and look what's happening in the Middle East. Russia (the army from the north) will ally with several of the Arab countries and attack Israel but that will be during the Tribulation. You can read that in Ezekiel 38-39. If it happens now, it will be only a forerunner of the big one. With all the MANY signs the Lord gave us to watch for, I don't find anywhere He tells us to watch for "Four Blood Moons." Whether Blood Moons have any prophecy significance or not, time is running out. The rapture is upon us and Christians need to gird up their loins and get ready to move out! God Bless!
