Conflicts

My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God
— Psalm 62:5-7

Wouldn't it be nice if you could go through life with everyone liking you and no conflicts with others? Don't want to burst your bubble but that's not going to happen. I was thinking about all the good pastor's I've known who were wrongfully accused of something just because someone didn't like them. I'm not talking about pastor's who did do wrong but those who suffered the loss of a ministry because someone didn't like them and lied.

It doesn't just happen to pastors, there are always going to be people in your life who misunderstand you and people who don’t like you. There will always be people who criticize you, judge you, attack you, and spread rumors about you. Accept it because it's part of this sinful world.

When you are misunderstood, you’re going to have a tendency to get in there and defend yourself. When you’re attacked, your tendency is to bring out all the weapons and attack back. When people criticize you, you want to criticize back. When people insult you, you want to insult them back. Face the facts, when we're hurt by someone, we want to hurt back.

Let me give you some good spiritual advise, don’t do it! I know, it feels good to get even but let God be your defender. Every time you are under attack, criticized, put down, or misunderstood, you have two choices. You can defend yourself, or you can let God defend you. The choice is yours. Let me ask you a question, who do you think can do a better job defending you? Now let me answer that question for you, God can.

You've heard it before and it's so true: You’re most like Christ when you say nothing in the face of attack, lies, and unfair criticism. You’re most like Jesus when you remain silent and leave it in God’s hands.

Look what Jesus did when He was insulted? “who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously” 1 Peter 2:23 .

Jesus was wrongly and unjustly convicted and persecuted but He never fought back. What a great lesson for us, he trusted God to defend him when it mattered most and to have the ultimate justice.

If you've ever studied the life of King David, you know he was criticized and attacked his entire life. In fact most of his life people wanted to kill him because they were just flat out jealous of him.

Let me paraphrase our text in Psalms 62. David depended on God alone; he put his hope in God. He said that God alone protects and saves him and that God was his defender, and he would never be defeated. Then he closes by saying that salvation and honor depended on God; and that God was his strong protector and shelter.

No wonder David was the apple of God's eye. Just like David, A lot of people are going to be jealous of your success, too, and they’re going to want to attack you for many different reasons. But, like David, you need to let God be your protector, your Savior, your defender, your victor, and your shelter. It's hard to let go but give up the get even attitude and let God handle it. Let him be your defense. He'll do a better job! I know, I've tried both ways and letting God have it is the best! God Bless!!
