July 4th message
Psalms 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Those of you who know me, know how much I love America. I bleed red, white and blue. America is not the same country I grew up in. What I mean is that we do not have the same values and standards that separated America from most of the world. Our schools, families and cities are not the same. Respect for God and all that is good has been replaced by a socialist anti-God government who caters to atheist and liberals. There are too many people in America who expect government handouts and the government in return gives and puts the chains of bondage on while doing it. I have a solution, stop depending on the government and start depending on God! I believe the greatest problem in America is not the government but the people! Yes, people who are steeped in religion but short on God. I know some so-called Christians who would vote for an atheist rather than a Christian if it meant more handouts and money in their pockets! Those people will be weighed in the balances of God and found wanting, they come up short.
As we celebrate the 4 of July. On July 4, 1776, America claimed her independence from Britain and democracy was born. Every year on that special day, Americans across the nation celebrate freedom and independence with fireworks, parades, barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Many put the American flag and “God Bless America” signs on display. From the day that America was founded upon the Christian faith until today, God’s hand of blessing has been upon America.
I think most Christians would also agree that America has strayed from her first love and today is in a sad spiritual condition. Just a month or so ago the Supreme Court released two major decisions expanding gay rights across the country. The justices struck down a federal law barring the recognition of same-sex marriage in a split decision, ruling that the law violates the rights of gays and lesbians and intrudes into states’ rights to define and regulate marriage. Justice Anthony Kennedy said that states must be allowed by the federal government to confer “dignity” on same-sex couples if they choose to legalize gay marriage. Yes, our families, which form the basic unit of society, are crumbling.
When a nation becomes as morally depraved, as spiritually blinded, and as steeped in humanism, heathenism and materialism as America is, there is only one power in the universe that can overcome such evil and that is PRAYER. What America needs is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit—a visitation of the manifest presence of God. There is always hope for this great nation if God’s people will come together and pray. As Matthew Henry once wrote, “When God intends great mercy for His people, He first of all sets them praying.” Let us embrace God’s great promise of prayer: He said, “If My people who are called by My name shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14). GOD PLEASE BLESS
