Are You Walking Through a Spiritual Desert?
I was talking to someone a few days ago about their personal relationship with God and this person was describing to me how they felt like they were not growing in their relationship with God. It was described as being stagnant, not growing and comparable to being in a spiritual desert. You sit down to pray but you can't concentrate and your mind wonders off. I know everyone goes through this at times, no matter what your walk with the Lord is like. If you deny this has never happened to you then you’re only lying to yourself. I have also walked through a spiritual desert at times and I empathize with anyone going through that.
I can start quoting bible verses, provide words of wisdom or say encouraging words but sometimes a person needs more. God provides this comfort when written in Psalms about struggling and you cry out to the Lord. Psalm 116:1-2 says, “I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.”
At times everyone feels like they are distant and not close to God and you miss your close relationship with Him. You become distraught because you feel your relationship with God is going nowhere. Maybe you just need to stop, sit down, start crying and let the tears flow because you miss your own personal relationship with God. You've done everything you can but you decide to surrender and let God take control instead of you trying to be in control of everything. That’s what God wants you to do and He provides that comfort.
You may think that God doesn't understand what you're going through but he does. Remember that Jesus had a close friend Lazarus and he died. Christ was upset and moved to tears even though He knew he was going to raise Lazarus from the dead. Jesus understands what you’re going through because he was in human form at one time.
Just remember you’re not alone and just let God take control instead of you.
Revelation 7:16-17 tells us, “Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, ’nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water. ’‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ ”
