Our Love towards One Another

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
— 2 Corinthians 5:20

I believe there are times when we all let our religion and politics get the best of us. As Christians, Ambassadors for the Kingdom of God we should always make sure we are representing heaven and not our personal views or feelings. I am one of the worlds worst when it comes to keeping my personal feelings out of religion and politics. As God's children we have something that identifies us as such. The Bible says there is one thing that identifies us as followers of Christ, our love.

Jesus said, "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another" John 13:34-35.

The world will identify us as Christians only when our lives reflect the Fathers love. You may be asking, what does this love look like? To answer that would take an eternity but let me give you a few things this love entails. It is resting in God's peace during times of stress and despair. It is forgiving our enemies and praying for them rather than seeking revenge or harboring anger. It is being kind and patient with others even when they are not. It is putting the needs of others before our own. Ok, that's enough to keep us busy for a life time
1 Corinthians 13 gives us a clear picture of this kind of love in action. You need to read the whole chapter but verses 4-7 paints a picture of love in action. These verses teach us that love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs, it does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.

I need to keep these verses before me at all times because I fall so short when measuring myself with the measuring rod of agape love. Listen folks, when we show the kind of love described in the above verses, people are going to notice these qualities because they are not the world's typical responses. We're not born with this kind of love, it takes a second birth to get this. On our own, we could never love others as God does. This kind of love can only come from the Holy Spirit who lives within us.

When we love others the way that Jesus does, then and only then are we acting as true Ambassadors for Christ and look like Him. We need to live our lives in such a way that people will know that this world is not our home but that we are Ambassadors for Christ and our heavenly home. And keep in mind that one day our Heavenly Father is going to call His Ambassadors home. God Bless!
