Life Isn’t Always Easy

By: Woody Godbey

A lot of us memorized the 23rd Psalms when we were kids in Sunday School of Bible School. The Psalm speaks volumes about our lives and God's care for us. Verse 4 says, Yea though I walk through valley of the shadow of death (the darkest valley), I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff - they comfort me.

David said this and... These situations are still with us, and they arrive in different forms, a job, a business, a relationship, a marriage, etc.

One thing I know for sure, life is not always easy. Sometimes we experience terrible episodes, times of deep despair and excruciating pain. These can be occasions when we don't think we can endure one more moment of agony. For some of us, this is our darkest valley. When in those low and desperate moments and there seems to be no way out of the dark, dark valley…It is in these darkest moments that we can say "I fear no evil; for you are with me" knowing that God will come to our rescue.

It is true that life is not always easy. But it is also true that even in our worst moments we have nothing at all to fear because the Lord is with us. The words "do not fear" and "I am with you" appear throughout the Scriptures in one form or another. Look them up and let them control your whole being; body, mind and spirit. They are the rod and our staff that will comfort us in the dark valleys.

Let the words of the Twenty-Third Psalm become a vital part of our total being. Even in our most desperate moments, we never need to be afraid and lose the sense of God's powerful, but gentle presence. The great Shepherd of His flock, in His great mercy and compassion will lead us out of all valleys. "For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness." 2 Samuel 22:29.

The 23rd Psalm says it all:
The Lord is my Shepherd (our relationship)
I shall not want (God's supply)
He makes me to lie down in green pastures (He gives us rest)
He leads me beside the still waters (refreshment)
He restores my soul (healing)
For His names’ sake (purpose)
Yea, though I walk through the valley – of the shadow of death (testing)
I will fear no evil (protection)
For Thou art with me (faithfulness)
Thy rod and Your staff comfort me (discipline & protection)
Thou prepares a table before me, in the presence of my enemies (hope)
Thou anoints my head with oil (consecration)
My cup runneth over (abundance)
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life (blessing)
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (security) God Bless!
