Hell Is For Real

By: Woody Godbey

“Heaven Is For Real” is a great movie and a must see. I wish someone would come up with a "Hell is for Real" movie. If someone were to do that and show hell as the Bible describes it, maybe it just might scare the hell out of people and they'll get saved. And of course there would be those who would scoff at the thought of a place called hell. Let ‘em scoff, one-second after death they will believe and experience an eternity in that awful place. Jesus believed in hell and talked more about that place than heaven. Peter, John and Paul all believed in and described it as a place of torment.

The Bible is full of verses that describe hell. One of those descriptions is "a burning fire". When Jesus describe hell, he often used the word Gahenna. Gehenna was the city’s garbage dump outside Jerusalem that was always on fire. Jesus said hell was a place of worms, maggots, fire, and torment. From the Lord's own description, we get a picture of a lake of fire and the general idea of a never ending fire and burning. Mark 9:43-48 tells us that the people there are in a place where the fire is never put out and the worm never dies.

Jesus also called hell a place of "outer darkness." He said that some in His day "will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" Matthew 8:12. The darkness could be literal but one thing I know for sure, it's a total separation from God. Those who go to hell will be put out into the blackness of eternity, with nobody to turn to, nobody to talk to, and they will be constantly alone. Their conscience will always be thinking about how they had the opportunity to go into heaven with God but turned it down. Some will remember how close they were to accepting Christ but pride or something else kept them from it.

Another truth about hell is that God didn't create it for the human race. Matthew 25:41 tells us that hell was created for the devil and his angels. That's right, hell was never intended for the human race. But people who make the choice to reject God will one day follow Satan right into hell, the lake of fire.

And once you're there, it's final. There will be no escape from hell, no way out, no second chance, can't talk your way out of it. That is why it is so important in this life to receive the pardon that God offers to all men through the cross of Jesus Christ. You have an eternal soul that will spend eternity in heaven or hell so don't think that you die and that's it.

I know someone is going to ask the question, how God can send a person to hell who has never heard of Jesus, heaven or hell.

The answer to that is simple, God does not send people to hell because they never heard of Christ. People go to hell because they have sinned. I was telling one of my readers yesterday that the judgment for sin will be in relationship to how much they knew or how much light they had. A person living in the United States of America has more spiritual light and privilege than any other people in the world. So people in America would be measured by the flood of Bibles we have, churches on every corner. Television/radio preaching, soul winners, evangelism crusades, Christian friends, and the gospel of Jesus everywhere you turn. But someone who grew up in an isolate land where none of those things existed might be held to account for the fact that something in his conscience told him there is a Creator worthy of his worship. The Bible says that a person’s conscience will either accuse them or excuse them on the day of Jesus Christ Romans 2:14-16. God is not going to condemn people if their own consciences excuses them. But the truth is, every human being has sinned against his or her own conscience.

Here is where a lot of people are mistaken, God does not judge people for failure to believe in Jesus, but because they are sinners. The problem is, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. For those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior, there will be forgiveness and mercy. So don't you gamble on life with all your luck and your skills, you can't play the cards that death is going to deal! Call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. God Bless!
