The Importance of Mothers

By: Woody Godbey

I know it's not Mother's Day but it has been a week today when I had to say bye to my Mother. Mothers are a very important part of our lives. The heart of a mother is like a rare jewel and more precious than gold and silver. They love their children during the worst and best of times.

I realize that all mothers are not the same. All Mothers are different. They struggle, fail, start over, and celebrate. But real Mother are those who can love unlike any other person. The reason I use real Mother's is because so many today just have babies and an unnatural love. God said that in the last days many would have an unnatural love. It's not natural for a Mother to abort their babies or ignore them when they are born. Many in this generation do not have the natural love that a real Mother has.

God created families and gave mothers a unique place in that unit. Mothers can love, give of themselves, cook, clean, wash clothes, put Band-Aids on scrapes … be the first one up in the morning or the last one down at night. They juggle a lot of things including raising children, working at jobs, managing a home, and sometimes they find some time for themselves.

Each day is a new beginning of what lies before them. But Mom's, you have a destiny, purpose, and the power to do and be all that God called you to be. Nothing can stop you except yourself. Listen Mom's, God made you special and you need to find the strength to face each day knowing that God loves you and needs you to be what He intended you to be. Yes, dads can and should help but they don't have what God gave you.

Philippians 2:1-4, has a beautiful message for all of us but this would be a great Scripture for Mom's to adopt. This translation say's it best for most to understand. “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."

Children need that unselfish love of a mother. And something else, we all need to love our mothers. Long life is promised to all who show honor: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor you father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth with them".

Ephesians 6:1-3

Mothers make up a crucial part of our lives. So whether it is a Hallmark card, visit, dinner out, hug, or a kiss on the cheek, we should show we care. It is so important to give our love to these dedicated women in our lives and don’t take them for granted. I fell short in giving my Mother the love she so deserved. I loved her with all my heart but I wish I had done a little more. God Bless!
