The Depth of God’s Love!

By: Woody Godbey

"He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters." (Psalm 18:16) What a great verse to hold on to when trouble comes. The Psalmist is saying, the Lord reached down from above and took hold of me; he pulled me out of the deep waters.

Just like the Psalmist, there are times when we find ourselves in that deep water thinking, “This is it, and I’m going under for the last time! I’m about to sink!” I've found myself in some pretty deep water before and I'm sure some of you have too. But no matter how deep you are, God’s love is there. He can pull you out of the deepest waters.

Do you have a problem that is taking you down so deep you have no hope? I have some good news for you. No matter what problem you have, God’s love is deeper than your problem. You may be in a deep depression or despair, deep trouble, or under deep stress. You may have deep problems, emotional problems, physical problems, or financial problems. But I'm here to tell you, God's love is deeper than ANY problem.

The story of Corrie Ten Boom and her sister Betsy never gets old to me. I have heard it and used it so many times. I just finished reading it again. Corrie ten Boom and Betsy ten Boom were Christians who lived in the Netherlands during World War II. They hid Jews in their home to protect them from the Nazis. When they were discovered, not only were the Jews taken to the concentration camp but Corrie and Betsy were taken as well, and they spent the rest of the war there.

After watching one atrocity after another, Corrie told Betsy, “This place is the pit of Hell!” Betsy replied, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper.”

You may be going through something right now where you have hit bottom. You may be at the bottom financially and you think, “I’m going broke!” Or, you’ve hit bottom emotionally, or your marriage has hit bottom, or maybe your health problems are sinking you. If you're like me I'm sure you’re frustrated and the first thing that comes to mind is, "I'm going under." We're human and when those deep water problems come, we don't always think spiritually. Just remember Psalms 18:16, you can't sink deeper than God's love.

If that is you, remember where God is when you hit bottom? He’s right there underneath you. Deuteronomy 33:27 tells us that God is our refuge and that His everlasting arms are always under us.

The disciples of Jesus found themselves in the middle of the deep waters, the wind and waves were about to take them down. They thought they had breathed their last breath when they finally remembered the Lord was in the boat with them. They woke Him from his sleep and shared the problem and He rebuked the storm and they were safe. He also rebuked them for their lack of faith. That has been me more than once.

When you find yourself sinking in the deep waters and you think you have nowhere else to go but down, Trust God and drop into his arms of love. Don't give up, let him catch you and support you. He WILL bring you back up. God Bless!
