Loving God Above Our Creeds

This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
— 1 John 1:5-6

Often times we love our views of God more than God himself. We expect everything to line up with our perception of Him, and when God reveals a truth about himself and it does not line up with who we want Him to be we say "that can't be God." If God where to reveal Himself to you and He were not what you expected, would you still love Him? Has the God you've been loving been God Himself? The Lord calls us to unrivaled devotion to God Himself, and when we devote ourselves to who we think He ought to be, we lose sight of the ruler God and make him conducive to our own image.

When you come into contact with the one true God, the first thing to go is your opinions of Him - They are eclipsed by the way things actually are. When one views Christ through the Spirit what matters is not what you have speculated but what the Spirit has revealed, everything else is vanity, a vapor, thoughts that may or may not be right. But when one views Jesus, he views The Truth, the one who knows all things and to whom all things point.

Beware of your speculation, the thoughts that Jesus has not revealed to you through His Spirit and Word. It may be "reasonable" but it is a groping in the darkness. The only way anyone can get at The Truth (Jesus) is through the revelation of God through His Spirit, and only a humble man can accept this, a man with the faith of a child (not the blindness of an adult).

Use reason within The Truth you know, not the truth you don't. The man who has anything Spiritual worth saying, understands this. Is your mission to know more or to know God? The world does not need to hear the opinions of another religious man, it needs to hear the very words of God. The way to know this is not merely to know more about God and who he may or may not be, but to know God Himself and work Him out.

The truth is all too distant

In luminescent right,

If reason is within you

But all around is night.
