God's Plan For Tearing Down Walls
“GOD’S PLAN FOR TEARING DOWN WALLS” from Joshua 6.
God delivered the Israelites from Egypt and brought them to the Promised Land. They were at the border but they were to go farther and deeper. They were hindered from going deeper and farther by a fortified city called Jericho. Jericho was a fortified city with two great walls surrounding it. So many times we want to go farther and deeper in our Christian life and relationship with the Lord and we face walls that keep us from that. Walls from our past, walls of attitude, unforgiveness, indifference, hurts, bitterness, besetting sin, etc. These are walls that must come down before we can go farther and deeper in our walk with the Lord.
Jericho’s walls looked to be impossible to penetrate but God had a plan. God’s plan was for the priest with trumpets, the Ark of the Covenant, and the soldiers to march around the city one time a day for seven days. They were not to say a word or make a sound. On the seventh day they were to march around the city, and then blow the trumpets and give a great shout. Yep, that was God’s plan!
I. IT WAS A SIMPLE PLAN.
Trust me! That’s it! Hebrews 11 tells us that the was came tumbling down by faith. That is pretty simple but sometimes so hard to exercise especially when we see these impossible to penetrate walls. But the walls had to come down the Jericho had to be defeated before they could go farther into the promised land.
II. IT WAS A STRANGE PLAN.
Can you imagine what Joshua’s army thought when they heard this plan? To a soldier, this didn’t make any sense. No talk about a siege, a strategy or secret weapon. Strange plans call for strong faith. Look what Gideon did when God gave him a strange plan. God’s plans may seem strange but they always work when we exercise FAITH.
III. IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL PLAN.
Doing things God’s way always brings victory.
That besetting sin, that bitterness caused by a hurt, that unforgiveness, that cold indifferent spirit, that pride, that something from the past cannot be defeated until the walls protecting them comes down. God had a plan for the physical wall and the same plan works with those spiritual walls. Tear those walls down! God Bless!
