A Battle For Our Souls

By: Woody Godbey

This verse really makes me stop and think.  I think we all agree that there is a battle going on in the United States today. It's a battle for our very souls, a battle for right and wrong, and a battle over the Bible, a battle over the family. Really, it is a battle over worldviews their gods.

And Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
— 2 Kings 6:17

Of course we all know that in the Bible there is only one God; it isn't multiple choice. God says, "I am the Lord, and there is no other" (Isaiah 45:5). There is the true and living God who is the God of Scripture and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is the God who loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross. He is the God that Democrats hate and try to bar Him from their puny little establishments.

They don’t even want Him in Christmas anymore. Can you imagine that? The Christ of Christmas is being replaced with holiday. Give me a break! What about this one, “Let’s have a moment of silence?” What’s wrong with, “Lets Pray”? So the battle rages today, the battle of the gods and the battle of the worldviews.

A Battle For Our Souls

Sometimes as followers of Jesus Christ and believers in the Bible, it feels like we are losing ground everywhere we turn. In some ways, you might feel as though there is no hope or what’s the use of trying.

In our text, Elisha and his servant were surrounded by enemy forces. Elisha was so confident in the Lord that he took a nap. But his servant woke him, scared to death and alarmed as the enemy forces were closing in. So Elisha prayed, "Lord, open his eyes." The Bible tells us, "Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha" (2 Kings 6:17).

At the end of days, when the battle is over and the smoke is cleared, I want to be found STANDING! As in the day of Elisha, there are more on our side than there are on the enemy's side. And we need to remember that as the battle rages on every day. Nominal Christians are accepted by the world because they pose no threat. Of course, they are not the real deal! Real Christians are hated by the world and I know this to be true because Jesus said so (John 15:18). The world hated Him and the world hates us because of Him. So the battle rages because of who we are.

The culture is spinning completely out of control and every day we see more evidence of this. Obama, Clinton and the Democrat machine continues to attack our Christian heritage and values. But I praise God this morning because Heaven’s Army is behind me, ready to defend my stand till Jesus takes me home. God Bless!
