The Blessed Hope
1 Thessalonians 4: 14 ”For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
I preached this sermon last week in Oklahoma. The “Blessed Hope” involves four things:
A. THERE WILL BE A RESURRECTION. Notice that verse 14 says that God will bring with Him. When Jesus comes in the air He will bring those who have died in Christ with him and they will receive their resurrection bodies first. How would you like to be in a cemetery at that time?
B. THERE WILL BE A RAPTURE. Notice verse 17 says “we which are alive and remain shall be caught up…” So get this picture: Jesus comes in the air with a shout, the voice of an archangel and the trump of God and those who have died in Christ will be come back with Him and their bodies and souls will unite into a glorified body. Then the Christians who are alive at that time will be changed with a glorified body and be caught up into the air.
C. THERE WILL BE A REUNION. Notice the dead in Christ and we which are alive will all be reunited. Loved one’s and friends who have been separated for years and decades will be together again for the greatest reunion that has ever been.
D. THERE WILL BE A REJOICING. Can you imagine the joy that will take place? Seeing your parents, spouse, children, siblings, friends but most of all, JESUS will flood our whole being with joy. Knowing the battle is over and victory won will bring joy.
If life is getting you down remember what’s ahead for Christians. Paul said in verse 18 to comfort one another with these words. When life gets tough, I look forward and I see what lies ahead for me and I am comforted. The best is yet to come! God Bless!!
